World Seniors Snooker Cues Up Charity Support

World Seniors Snooker (WSS) has today announced a range of key charitable initiatives to run during the ongoing LLP Solicitors World Seniors Championship and beyond.

Care Workers Charity

WSS is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Care Workers Charity (CWC) that will see the charity become an official partner of the WSS Tour.

The values of the WSS Tour are closely aligned with those of the CWC, which supports social care workers across the UK by providing mental health and well-being support, financial support with grants and other forms of support to social care workers.

The proportion of older people has increased over the last few decades, and approximately 25% of the population will be aged sixty or above over the next 20-40 years. Social isolation among the over 60s is predicted to increase with detrimental physical and mental health consequences, so interventions are paramount.

Sports like snooker can be a positive intervention targeting social isolation. The WSS Fifty for Fifty campaign is an opportunity for those over fifty to socially integrate with their peers in a snooker environment and enjoy watching a session of snooker. It helps to place social value and importance on caring for those over fifty and their carers who may not get a chance to socialise together.

Having the CWC as a charity partner allows WSS to have service users and providers involved in snooker and recognise the importance of social isolation and care for older adults living alone.

Age UK

This year at World Seniors Championship, WSS has also invited Age UK to give people local people over 60 in Sheffield and their carers a chance to enjoy a session of snooker at the Championship, which will feature the 1986 World Snooker Champion Joe Johnson on Friday 5 May.

Rohit Sagoo, WSS Director said: “At WSS, we recognise the value of improving older people’s well-being and social connectedness, so this is an opportunity for our older snooker fans to enjoy a session of snooker at The Crucible.

“This is a venture that WSS Chairman Jason Francis, and I are passionate about, and we hope to continue this in future WSS tournaments.”
