Bio

Tony Knowles is a two-time ranking event winner who caused one of the greatest upsets in Crucible Theatre history when he defeated Steve Davis 10-1 in the opening round of the 1982 World Championship.

From Bolton, Tony rose to a career-high ranking of number two during the 1984/85 season, courtesy in part to his victories at both the 1982 International Open and 1983 Professional Players Tournament.

He reached the semi-finals of the World Championship on three occasions, coming within a frame of the final in 1983, losing a decider to Canada’s Cliff Thorburn.

Knowles is a regular competitor in the World Seniors Championship and reached the quarter-finals of the 2012 event before falling to eventual champion Nigel Bond.
