WSS Rankings | Event Two Update

The World Seniors Snooker (WSS) ranking lists have been updated following the second event of the new Race to the Crucible series at The Crucible Club in Reading last weekend.

The top two players on the official WSS ranking list, as well as the top two on the ‘Race to the Crucible’ one-year list will earn their places in the World Seniors Championship, and they will be joined by the winner of a ‘Top 16 Shootout’ event – where players ranked between third and tenth on each list will compete for the final place.

One point is awarded for each frame won at an event and, should the same players sit in the top two of both rankings lists, then the official world rankings would take priority.

Watson Maintains Top Spot

Stuart Watson remains in poll position in the official two-year world ranking list despite losing out in the last 16 of the most recent Race to the Crucible series event in Reading.

Wayne Townsend, who finished runner-up in the first event before losing out in a deciding frame in the quarter-finals to eventual champion Rory McLeod in event two, climbs into the automatic qualification places in second and has closed the gap on Watson to just 11 points.

Title success for McLeod sees him climb to 17th position in the two-year list, while last weekend’s runner-up Philip Williams moves to third place and now sits just two points away from the all-important top two positions.

Event one champion Alfie Burden moves up a place to fourth following a run to the quarter-finals of the second event. Meanwhile, Craig Steadman is yet to feature in an event on the WSS tour this season and has dropped from top spot to 10th position as a result.

Burden Leads The Race

A run to the quarter-finals of last weekend’s event in Reading was enough for event one winner Alfie Burden to maintain his lead at the top of the Race to the Crucible series ranking list.

Burden, who reached the final of the 2023 World Seniors Championship at the Crucible Theatre, has opened up a two point lead at the top as last weekend’s runner-up Philip Williams climbs into the automatic qualification places.

Wayne Townsend, who finished as runner-up to Burden in event one, falls to third but is tied on points with Williams after two outings. Dharminer Lilly and Gary Filtness currently make up the top five with both players tied on 29 points and trailing top spot by seven.

Event two winner Rory McLeod picked up maximum points last weekend and moves into the top ten places as a result, climbing into ninth position.

Hunter Tops Super Seniors

There is a new leader in the Super Seniors ranking list as John Hunter, who won the first event of the season last month, moves into top spot following a run to the semi-finals last weekend.

Gary Filtness was the previous leader of the ranking list but, after not featuring in either of the first two events of the new season, he has dropped to sixth position.

Graham Beardmore, who won the title last weekend in Reading, climbs to fourth with Mukesh Parmar and David Brock sitting between him and Hunter in first place.
