Rory McLeod defeated fellow former professional Rodney Goggins 4-1 to win the final qualifying event for this season’s ROKiT Phones.com UK Seniors Snooker Championship at the Tradewell Snooker Centre in Hull last weekend.

The 48-year-old, who dropped off the professional tour at the end of last season, defeated Chris Clarkson, Tony Corrigan, Bal Sembi, Neal Jones and Cary Kikis to reach the final, a result that was already enough to secure his place at the final stages of the competition next month at Hull’s Bonus Arena with Ireland’s Goggins already having qualified for the event following his own success in Belgium earlier in the season.

McLeod however was not to be denied victory, responding to an opening frame break of 98 by his opponent with four frames in a row to secure his second title in the space of a month after he enjoyed success at the first event on the new English Partnership for Snooker and Billiards Amateur circuit in Leicester recently.

The conclusion of what was a successful event means that the final field is now set for the venue stages of the ROKiT Phones.com UK Seniors Snooker Championship, which will return to the scene of Ken Doherty’s maiden seniors victory a year ago in Hull.
