Bio

Fergal O’Brien announced his retirement from professional snooker in 2024 after a career spanning over 30 years.

The Irishman’s finest hour came at the 1999 British Open, when he defeated Anthony Hamilton 9-7 in the final to win his first ranking event title.

Two years later, O’Brien reached the final of the Masters before losing out to an inspired Paul Hunter and he would rise to a career high ranking of 9th in the world during that same season.

A former World Championship quarter-finalist, ‘Fearless Fergal’ has twice competed in the World Seniors Championship and reached the final in 2015 with victories over Peter Ebdon, Steve Davis and Ken Doherty before losing to Mark Williams in the title match.
