The World Seniors Snooker (WSS) ranking lists have been updated following the sixth event of the Race to the Crucible series at The Crucible Club in Newbury last weekend.

The top two players on the official WSS ranking list, as well as the top two on the ‘Race to the Crucible’ one-year list will earn their places in the World Seniors Championship, and they will be joined by the winner of a ‘Top 16 Shootout’ event – where players ranked between third and tenth on each list will compete for the final place.

One point is awarded for each frame won at an event and, should the same players sit in the top two of both rankings lists, then the official world rankings would take priority.

Townsend in Top Spot

Wayne Townsend has retained the world number one spot in the World Seniors Snooker (WSS) ranking list despite a quarter-final exit in Newbury last weekend.

A run to the last four has seen Dharminder Lilly, who won the third event of the season, return to the automatic qualification positions and reduce Townsend’s lead at the top to just three points.

Event one winner Alfie Burden, who each reached the semi-finals of the latest tournament, climbs from seventh to third in the ranking list while Andrew Norman sits in fourth after lifting a third successive title in the Race to the Crucible series.

Both Townsend and Lilly will be defending points at the next event while Burden and Norman will have no points to defend, meaning they have a great opportunity to close the deficit at the top.

The remainder of the top ten is currently made up of Stuart Watson, Gerard Greene, Aaron Canavan, Nigel Howe, Phil Williams and Neil Craycraft.

Lilly Returns to the Summit

A run to the semi-finals in Newbury has seen Dharminder Lilly return to the top of the Race to the Crucible series ranking list.

Wayne Townsend slips to second following a quarter-final loss but he remains in the automatic qualification places with three events remaining.

A third title in a row for Andrew Norman sees him climb from eight to fifth, while a run to the final has resulted in Gerard Greene climbing into third position – eight points behind the top two.

Hunter Stays On Top

John Hunter remains at the top of the Super Seniors ranking list despite not competing in the latest event in Newbury.

The 58-year-old holds a 13 point advantage over second-placed Mukesh Parmar, while David Brock sits just a single point behind him in third position.

Dennis Tristram holds fourth position while a second title of the season for Anthony Harris sees him break into the top five.

Event seven of the Race to the Crucible series takes place on 7-9 February at The Crucible Club in Reading. Enter now!
